About Laser Vein Removal

Typically found on the face and legs, spider veins are small, branching blood vessels that are visible through the skin. Caused by many factors, like age and genetics, spider veins can be blue, purple, and red, which makes them difficult to hide. Since these veins usually get worse over time and lead to stronger visibility, it's smart to seek treatment when they first appear. To minimize the look of veins on the face and body, Legacy Dermatology & Restoration Center offers noninvasive laser vein removal sessions for Frisco, TX women and men. In your private consultation, seasoned dermatologist Dr. Jennifer Dharamsi and her team of providers will develop a personalized plan based on your unique needs and goals for your laser vein removal treatment.

Ideal Candidates

Laser vein removal treatments at Legacy Dermatology & Restoration Center can help the visibility of small to medium-sized blood vessels that are on the face and body. Popularly known as spider veins, these blood vessels are not usually a medical problem, but they are considered unsightly. Many people avoid certain clothing (like shorts and swimsuits) or use a large amount of cosmetics to try to mask these veins. Laser vein reduction is great for patients who are in good overall health, do not have a history of blood clots, and are not pregnant.

Procedure Technique

Nonsurgical vein reduction treatments are done in our Frisco, TX office as an outpatient procedure in about 20 – 40 minutes, depending on the size and number of areas treated. During your procedure, you will lay comfortably in a private treatment room as the affected area is prepared. A topical anesthetic will be applied before your session to help minimize any discomfort. The laser is passed over the area so the energy can target the veins through a series of pulses and won't affect or harm the surrounding skin. The blood vessel takes in the laser energy, which collapses the wall of the vessel. Once the vein collapses, it takes about 4 – 6 weeks for it to be reabsorbed by the body and disappear. You will be able to leave our office as soon as you feel comfortable to resume your normal day.

What to Expect

Following your laser vein removal treatment, you may have redness, swelling, and bruising, but these symptoms should disappear in about 7 – 10 days. For faster healing, support or compression garments can be worn to increase blood circulation. It's important to avoid prolonged sun exposure, and you should apply sunscreen frequently to areas that have been treated. Some patients may see visible improvements right away, but the timing of results will vary for each patient. At your initial consultation with Dr. Dharamsi, realistic expectations will be discussed along with recommendations on how many sessions may be needed to reach your best results. Other spider veins will probably appear over time so touch-up sessions may be needed every few years.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does laser vein removal cost?
The cost of your laser vein removal will depend on the location, the number of areas being treated, the size of your veins, and the number of sessions needed to attain your desired outcome. We invite you to come in for a consultation so we can review your condition and estimate your costs.

Should I get laser vein removal or sclerotherapy?
The treatment you select will depend on a variety of factors, including Dr. Dharamsi's recommendation on which procedure she thinks is best for you and your unique condition. Varicose and spider veins often respond well to laser vein removal, but in some cases, sclerotherapy may be a better option. This is why it's important to undergo a thorough consultation with Dr. Dharamsi to discuss your case and family medical history.

Is laser vein removal painful?
At the start of your procedure, we will apply a local anesthetic to numb the target area for optimal comfort. Typically, patients report feeling a slight stinging sensation, but this is generally very tolerable. Our laser also has a built-in cooling system to minimize this sensation and to protect the skin from getting burned.
