Dermatitis is one of the most common skin conditions that can affect men, women, and children at any time of year. In fact, patients from all over Frisco, TX visit Legacy Dermatology & Restoration Center for treatment year-round. Dermatitis is a general term for a condition that could present itself in a number of distinct ways. The most common symptoms include skin that is flaky, crusty, itchy, red, and sometimes blistery. Eczema is a form of dermatitis that is referred to as atopic dermatitis. But there are also other kinds, such as seborrheic dermatitis and contact dermatitis. Certain health conditions, diet, genetics, fabrics, allergies, and asthma can cause dermatitis. Seasoned dermatologist Dr. Jennifer Dharamsi or one of her skilled practitioners will assess your skin, determine what is causing the breakout, and recommend a proper treatment, as well as a regimen to follow to avoid further flare-ups.
"To put things simply, Dr. Dharamsi is the best Dermatologist in DFW. I have had type A dermatitis for my entire life and have seen every so called, "top dermatologist" in the Dallas area. Instead of just giving me a standard prescription and 2 minute talk, she decided to change my entire regime and gave me a morning/night routine. She genuinely cares about her patients and I cannot recommend her enough! She also recommended that I buy the product line that they had in office but her intentions were sincere as opposed to a pushy sales tactic. THESE PRODUCTS WORK PEOPLE!!!! Thank you so much Dr. Dharamsi, I can not wait for my next visit !"- A.W. / Google / Aug 20, 2019
"The front desk ladies are super sweet and got me checked in fast, (even though I had called ahead to let them know I was running late bc of traffic) and were understanding when I had accidentally brought the wrong new patient forms. They also prefilled my info into alot of the documents, name/insurance, etc. so it made it super easy to fill out and sign, I love that at doctors offices. I saw Patrice, the PA and her medical assistant, Jen. They were amazing!! Very knowledgeable and professional. Patrice was super thorough about my conditions, educating me on meds and diagnosis, addressing all my concerns especially acne and eczema, and even discovered something else I wasnt even aware of. Jenn also wrote down and went over everything again with me so I knew exactly what to do after seeing Patrice, the PA. I'm looking forward to my follow-up care and results after following the instructions/meds they gave. THANK YALL SO MUCH! Definitely recommend."- J.J. / Google / Jan 16, 2020
Lots of factors play a role in causing dermatitis. With atopic dermatitis, genetics, dry skin, bacteria, environmental factors, and immune system problems are the top causes. Contact dermatitis is caused by an adverse reaction to certain products and substances, like soaps, detergents, jewelry, and cleaning materials. With seborrheic dermatitis, the condition could be connected to a yeast found in the skin's oil secretion since symptoms are often dependent on the season.
As there are several kinds of dermatitis, symptoms are often presented in different ways. Usually beginning in infancy, atopic dermatitis shows up as a red, itchy rash at the front of the neck, behind the knees, or inside the elbows. Contact dermatitis occurs when you make contact with a substance that that produces an allergic reaction or irritates your skin. This could result in a red rash that can itch, sting or burn, and possibly blister. With seborrheic dermatitis, reddened skin, scaly patches, and abundant dandruff are typical.
Since every patient's dermatitis symptoms vary, the treatments can differ significantly and will be determined once Dr. Dharamsi entirely assesses your ailment. In some cases, Dr. Dharamsi may prescribe corticosteroid ointments to be used on affected areas. Some patients benefit from calcineurin inhibitors, which are creams or lotions that could correct immune system problems that result in symptoms. Other patients benefit from light therapy remedies where the skin is exposed to a certain amount of light to soothe the skin.
